Please take the time to read November's Monthly Featured Piece and my blog entry for November. Also, the quote and word of the day will be updated monthly from now on.

After another long hiatus, Perusing the Pages will begin to see activity again. Please take some time to look around and see what's been updated over the next few days.

Quote of the Month

(From Elizabeth Gilbert on nurturing creativity)
"Listen you, thing, you and I both know that if this book isn't brilliant that is not entirely my fault, right? Because you can see that I am putting everything I have into this, I don't have anymore than this. So if you want it to be better, then you've got to show up and do your part of the deal. OK. But if you don't do that, you know what, the hell with it. I'm going to keep writing anyway because that's my job. And I would please like the record to reflect today that I showed up for my part of the job." - Elizabeth Gilbert

My Portfolio

So after browsing through this brand new website and taking everything in, you might be saying "This is a great site and all, Ashleigh, but there still isn't a whole lot of your writing here." That is why this page is here. Rather than shoving certain pieces I want you to read down your throats all the time, I thought it would be best to just let you browse through my portfolio yourself. That way, you can go through it at your own pace and read only what you're interested in.

My portfolio contains everything from essays to reports to short stories to stage plays to novellas, so you're bound to find something of interest. I also write in almost every genre imaginable, from fantasy to non-fiction to to romance to adventure to mystery and more. It's all there.

Important Links

The Website of Ami McKay: Ami McKay is the author of the CBA 2007 Fiction Book of the Year winner and #1 Canadian Bestseller, The Birth House. This is her debut novel and she is currently working on her second novel, The Virgin Cure. Her website has information on her book tours and appearances, updates about her books and a fun novelties page where you can get your tea leaves read and even take an online hysteria test. She is also my aunt and I am very proud of her and take inspiration in her success.

The Quotations Page: This is where I retrieve my quote of the day for my website from. It's an excellent source of over 26, 000 famous quotes from over 3, 100 authors.

The OED Online: The Online Oxford English Dictionary is an excellent resource for anyone who enjoys the English language. It is by far the most thorough, detailed and comprehensive dictionary on the web. I use the OED Online to retrieve my word of the day for my website. You must pay for a subscription to use the dictionary, but some universities will allow you to use the OED Online using your student login information, so check with your university to see if you attend one of these schools.

Why Daddy Doesn't Love You: This is my boyfriend Chris' comic strip. Although not really related to writing in any way, if you're in the mood for a very goofy, random laugh, this is the place you should go.

Writers Cafe: This is my absolute favourite online writing website. Every account is free and every writer gets his or her own profile complete with his or her writing and reviewing stats. Writers can also create and enter contests (some with publishing and cash prizes), review and rate other writers' work, and earn badges for achieving goals on the site. The people there are encouraging and friendly and I wouldn't want my portfolio anywhere else on the web.
